I learned that the traditional green bean casserole was made in 1955 by an employee at the Campbell Soup Company. I don’t remember having this amazing casserole with our holiday meals when I was growing up, but it somehow became a permanent dish in my household during the holiday season.  Our Holiday Dinner fills the house with all of the traditional smells of turkey, stuffing, dinner rolls, and of course, the holiday classic green bean casserole. The memory of the crispy onions just makes me hungry thinking about it. We like ours with a little extra crunchy topping, so we add just a bit more than the basic recipe. Next, add in the drained beans, along with half of the crispy onions.  Transfer the green bean mixture into baking dish. Place the dish in the air fryer basket, or on a shelf, and cook for 350 degrees Fahrenheit for 10-12 minutes, stirring halfway through the cooking process. Once cooking time is done, top the dish with the remaining crispy onions, and cook for an additional 2-3 minutes, until golden brown.  You can season with salt, or additional seasonings to your preference.

Can I use Fresh or Frozen Green Beans?

Yes. If using fresh ingredients, you will need to pre- cook green beans first, and be sure to drain any water before adding them to the other ingredients. If using frozen beans, just be sure to thaw and also drain excess water.

Can I make this green bean casserole ahead of time?

Yes! We actually make this the day before a holiday dinner to have it ready. You can make this 2-3 days early. Just keep it covered and refrigerated until you are ready to cook it.

Can I add other ingredients to this recipe?

You can easily add fresh mushrooms, strips of bacon broken into to bacon pieces, fresh garlic, or another other seasonings you’d like.  FOR MORE AIR FRYER RECIPES:
